JPC Welcomes Our New Pastor

Rev. Rebecca Mattern
Rebecca is passionate about building relationships with individuals and communities that connect people to one another, engage their gifts, and foster their faith.
She grew up on a retired dairy farm outside Youngstown, OH with lots of room to enjoy God's great creation. A child of the church, she intentionally pursued vocation as a lab technologist and avocation as an active member and lay leader in the church. When the demands of career took time away from serving the church, God opened a way to professional ministry.
Rebecca served in Youth and Christian Education ministries in Durham, NC, and Canfield, OH before pursuing ordination. She graduated from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2022, completed a Hospital Chaplain residency, and then worked as the Interim Directory of Faith Formation in Okemos, MI. In gratitude and faith, she was called by God to be ordained and serve JPC in 2026.
Rebecca loves spending time outdoors actively watching the grass grow, smelling petrichor, feeling the wind blow, listening to the sounds of water and laughter, and the taste of a good meal shared. She also enjoys hiking, reading, traveling with friends, tending houseplants, being creative, and listening to music. She is excited to live in and explore the Appalachian mountains and culture of East TN.
Her first worship service at JPC will be on Sunday, June 14 at 11:00am.
